The Future of Workplace Well-being: What’s Next?
As AI becomes a major part of businesses, employees future has shifted from the typical structure. Just recently, before AI, the basic physical and psychological values that organizations have focused on changed into more complex requirements such as human and digital interactions, psychology, and complex human values in hybrid environments.
As Valtonen et al. (2025) state, in an AI-driven work environment, AI can improve the workplace well-being by creating automation tools for repetitive and low-intensity tasks, giving employees more time to be independent and make valuable decisions, and offering analytical and productive insights, which will help with burnout. The study found out that when AI tools are used to support employees, instead of being used to control them, they will positively improve employee mental wellbeing and reduce work-related burnouts.
However, Jin, Jiang, and Liao's (2024) research on affective well-being proposes that even though AI helps to increase efficiency, it also causes employees to feel disconnected from the environment, organization, and people. Which will lead to anxiety and emotional fatigue. As an example, when AI uses human roles and easy tasks lying around, workers will feel the job insecurity and uncertainty of their own capabilities (whether they can do a better job than AI). As a next step, HR should come up with a hybrid approach. While using AI for day-to-day operations, organizations should continue to improve mental wellbeing, foster a sense of belonging, and monitor via an emotionally intelligent approach.
As per both Jin, G., Jiang, J., and Liao, H. (2024) and Valtonen, A. et al. (2025), when AI is mixed with human emotional intelligence in an organization, the outcome will be not only a productive but also a psychologically healthy space to work. With this vision the world we knew would change to possibly a better environment where technology doesn't work against us but with us.
